Here is the mason/canning jar you will need for this project.
This chick feeder is what you will need for the base of your bird feeder. You can find these at your local Home & Ranch, or Feed Store. (not sure what the actual name of it is tho)
Here are my two new bird feeders in our little apple tree! Now if Mr. Squirrel will stay out, Ha Ha! I am hoping that the plate will help keep him out :)

That's a neat idea!! But do you REALLY think you can make it squirrel proof?!! We've just given up and leave some for the birds and then a pile of seeds at the bottom of the tree for the squirrels!!
ReplyDeleteI'm kinda into bird feeders right now.Made a couple teacup ones. How was it drilling into the glass? I wanna try it, but a little apprehensive. Great job on the bird feeder; I love the plate. BTW, visiting from Sew Many Ways.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! new follower after finding you on the diy link party.

Cute! I have one of those feeders with the mason jar, but I fill mine with peanut M & M's in my craft room :)
ReplyDeleteMy kind of feeder!! lol
DeleteI love the idea and never knew there was a drill bit specifically for glass - I'll be letting my husband know - maybe we can make one together, too? I'm popping over from the linky party at http://www.rocknquilts.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing your tutorial there on Toot-torial Tuesdays!
I found this tutorial after seeing some feeders at the swanky pet store nearby in a similar style. I'm so excited to make mine, especially sans all the silly beads and for a fraction of the price! I think they were $50 or something at the shop (nutters!)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea! So much more interesting and original than the feeders you find at Lowes and Home Depot Reminds me of feeding the chickens when I was a kid. I'm putting this on my "to make" project list!
ReplyDeleteI love this. I have one I got at a craft show years ago, but have always wanted some more and wasn't sure how to make it. Thanks so much for the instructions.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info. I just spent $20 on a similar feeder. Groan.
ReplyDeleteAwesome idea! I do all kinds of repurpose recycle projects. Gonna try this! There is a local farm feed store here called Tractor Supply hopefully they will have the chicken feeder part.
