sewing bits...

TGIF!!!  So glad that this week has finally reached Friday :)

These little Post it note clip boards are fast,super easy,and best of all use up scraps!  These have been on one of my pinterest boards for a while.  They make a great inexpensive freebie,for my shop customers,or anyone else I need a quick gift for.  Of course just because is always the best reason ;)

My nice wanted to know if the clutches I sent could be minus the chain,so I made up another tester for her.  The first two will be going into my shop.  The coin purse I had made for my day on the UR Priceless Blog Hop,but had not attached the frame.

One set of pillow cases,I have fabric pulled for more,just need to sew them up.

I have also pulled some fabrics for more of these,covers for composition notebooks/journals.  Do you like my ladybug button closure?

Mom's Birthday gift this year...while visiting her in February,we got on the subject of pincushions.  She  was intrigued by the idea of the dress form pincushion for my FB swap partner.  Right then the decision was made to make and give her one of her very own.  Since she has only ever had one of those tomato pincushions.  Her favorite color is blue,and she loves flowers,so this was the perfect fabric scrap for her pincushion.

Sew,whats up?

Here it is Sunday evening again,another weekend is fading into the sunset.  Around here it was pretty productive,in spite of all the running around Mr. P. insisted I do with him.  He is a happy camper gardner this evening,as he planted onions today.  Now we are crossing our fingers that the plastic we rigged over them keeps off the frost.

I took advantage of the trip we took to the town to the north of us,where we picked up the smallish  rototiller he needed for the raised beds.  We stopped at the LQS there...

because there were a couple things I needed.  While there he picked out some fabric for a new pillow case.  The yellow/gold I pulled from my stash to break up the intense print a bit.  It received his stamp of approval,so last night he gave it a test run.

For the Farmers Market,I have to send in 7 photos with my application.  This is the first project I decided on,not that what I already have wouldn't do,but since I really want them to approve my app...  I started out with a mini-charm pack of Noteworthy,and some medium grey Kona.

I know this is skipping around a bit but,check out the mini ironing board Mr. P. helped me to make this weekend!  It was super easy,and now there is no jumping up every time I need to press a seam :)

Of course it is not so great for those larger pressing needs,but hey,that is what the big ironing boards are for right?  At least now,it is only taking up most of my sewing room when I really need it,the rest of the time it will be stowed behind the door.

You can't tell this is my favorite new toy can you? ;)  Okay back to my project,when making the blocks for the table topper there were all these little corners. (pictured above)  I really did not want to throw them away,and my scrap baskets are overflowing already.  So,I decided to use them,even though it took me quite a bit longer to actually finish the topper.

The sun was super bright when I took the photos,so it is hard to see the quilting :(  I sewed 1/4 inch in all around the inside of each grey piece.

The backside,here you can see the quilting a lot better.  A few of the scraps were used on this side,the rest of them were incorporated into the binding.

A close-up of the binding for you,which was attached using a zig-zag stitch.  Now to make a decision on the name of this one!

Up~Cycled Tie & a Giveaway

Once upon a time there was a young man who owned a black tie with pink polka dots.......

It looked a lot like this,that is until,he tried to iron it!  I came home from work one afternoon a few years ago to find a Very Upset Gil,tie in hand.  The first words out of his mouth were,"mom You Can Fix It Right"?  There was a melted spot about three inches in diameter about mid-chest.  It Sucks when,as a parent you Can't Fix It,even when it is just a melted tie.

Since then the tie has hung on a hook in my sewing room,that is until this weekend!  Can you see the bits of pink in the strips of fabric on the bath towel?  I finally had an idea of how to re-purpose/up-cycle Gil's tie!  He Loved that tie so much,it was a gift from his cousin when he was one of the grooms men in her wedding :)

The rest of the braided block was attached to the cuff of a pillow case.  After finishing the two projects I sent two picture texts to Gil,it was such a great feeling to get this reply....

"I Loved that Tie,I Like"!!!  Being a parent has its moments,Bad & Good Alike.
