A paper pieced finish

I don't have much to show for the first half of the week.

This is a block that I tested for Angela over at Sewing With Squeak .  She put out a call for pattern testers around the middle of the month.  I chose this one and a turtle, which I have yet to test.  This one will be modpodged on to a hard backed canvas and then be gifted to my dad.  He used to be stationed at Eldred Rock Lighthouse in AK during his time in the Coast Guard.

Although this looks nothing like that lighthouse I think he will still like it.

When making the basket for my swap partner (scroll down to see that post) I had planed to use this second geese piece for the back pocket.  However I made a mistake and had to use fabric glue in one spot, just down from the second goose on the left next to the boarder.  So this is going to be used  to make a zip pouch for...

This Soldier(Gil's girlfriend,Carla) who is deployed right now.  Today she received the goodie box I sent her last Tuesday!  She texted me early this morning to let me know it had finally arrived.

Recently my sis texted me  a few photos of Axton enjoying the quilt I made him!  Apparently it is much loved!

A little Color Me Retro...

It has been a busy first few days of the month around here, with not much sewing to show for it...

I did have time however to get another pouch sewn up for my partner!  Since she is the Silent type and has not said much,I am hoping that she will like this one...because I will be shipping it this next week.

I am so happy that Stephanie over at Quarter Incher put this swap together.  It has been so much fun!

Of course I did put my own little twist on the pouch, and changed it up just a bit.  You should head over to Flickr and check out all of the Awesome Triple Zip Pouches in this swap, they are amazing!

They say,"All good things must come to an end"  and so it is with the first round of Stash Bee.  As this is the last month.  This month we (in hive #1) were asked to sew the cross/plus block,so here is the one I will be dropping in the mail this week.

A parting shot for you... Mr P. is 5'9 as you can see the sunflower he is standing next to is a good four feet taller.  It is even taller than the roof of the trailer!  All of the sunflowers in the garden this year are volunteers, they are scattered throughout the garden.  Courtesy of the same resident squirrels, who keep depositing the peanuts all over the garden!  Of course if one of the neighbors didn't keep them in peanuts...

I will be back tomorrow to post my Goals for the month.

Mama's got a new bag!

Not  much to show in the way of sewing this week, but I did receive a new market tote bag, from Debbe over at Pieces to Love!  She is/was my swap partner for this quarter over on FB :)

Check out this totally Sweet bag she made for little ole me!   It is kind of hidden in this photo, but the outside pocket has my initial appliqued on it. (Love ;)

This photo shows the pocket much better!  Loving all those polka dots too...

A peek at the  inside and some more pockets.  Her bag is on the way,but has not arrived yet.

This months Stash Bee block, was for a  Granny Square block.  In one color with light in the center, medium and then dark for the outside.  Heather asked us to leave them un-trimmed,so that she could trim them up herself.

I hope to have a post up Friday or Saturday with some of the things in progress or maybe, finished by then.

Playing with shapes

This past week was a particularly busy one around here (in the sewing room).  As you probably noticed the lack of posting...  Sorry to say it is probably going to be only a couple times a week for the next 6-8 weeks, while I continue to gear up for the farmers market this summer.  Hope you Sweet "Patch" readers understand and stick in there with me :)

Remember when I posted about these rulers ?  Well, the time finally came for me to sit down and have a play date with the circle rulers!  What a fun date it was too,as I thoroughly enjoyed myself!

This quilt started out as the squares with the baby wild animals(in my stash for around 5 years now) then I looked through my stash of Kona Solids to find some for the frames around the squares.  The background prints for the circles are from a fat quarter bundle I stole picked up while on my meet up with Melissa last summer (from her favorite LQS) it was $19.00 for 18 fat quarters!

I used a zig zag stitch to applique the circles to the background fabric, for the quilting I just FMQed squares around the squares and circles around the circles, fun, fun, fun!  This one finishes out at 40ish x 42ish.

The backside is a pretty striped fabric and a green print both also from my stash :)  For this quilt I decided to try a no binding edge, and am very happy with how it turned out.  Although this is the first time using this on a regular quilt,I have used it before when making quillows.  (haven't made one of those in a long time)

There is another quilt in progress, almost finished that I will be using this technique on also.  Hoping to show you that by mid week...

A sneak peak for you ;)

The last shapes I played with this past week!  This is also in progress,so you will just have to wait to see what it actually becomes ;)

As for my goals:  no progress yet on the Ooo Rah wallet, but it will be worked on this week.  Also,my row quilt is sewn into strips and the batting spray basted  to them, now to start the quilting...

This afternoon when going to our room to get a load of laundry this is what I found.  A sleeping kitty using my pj's for a pillow :)

Have a great week!

Purple,charming...

Recently,I commented over at Fluffy Sheep Quilting to say that I would love to join Cindy's Rainbow Charm Swap.  Then was disappointed when she emailed to say the swap was already full :(  So on the waiting list my name went...

A couple days later another email arrived to say, someone had dropped out,so I had a spot!  When color assignments were given I received the color purple.

After a lot of searching online,I found a sale!  So was able to pick up some Metro Living for $6.99 a yard :)  They were also having a weekend sale of 30% off,so I also picked up a little something I have been drooling over since first seeing it...(will share that in another post)

This month over at STash Bee we were asked to make an improv tree block, which I had issues with...  Finally this evening I was able to get it right. :)  The tree and branches are made with Kona Glacier, and the background is Kona Pomegranate.

Something that has been on my list for a long time is a casserole dish carrier, all it needs to be finished is for the ties to be hand sewn on.

This one is kind of scrappy, since there was not enough of the blue fabric left in my stash.  It took me two evenings after work to complete it.  Of course I didn't have any quilted fabric,so had to quilt it before cutting out and sewing the pieces together.

Lastly a few key rings made using scraps.  Started cutting out the pieces for barns # 3 and 4,so am hoping to get those done tomorrow evening.

Bread Making Machine...

(Namely Me)
Yes that is what I felt like this past weekend.

This is about half of the loaves of bread that I baked up this weekend!  21 was the total number, and yes I was the machine (I don't own a bread maker).  The flavors were ~ sun dried tomato w/cinnamon basil ~ english muffin w/sharp cheddar & green onion ~ pumpkin seed w/cranberry ~ plain ~ rye ~

Let me tell you that this was a great idea because, every loaf was gone in the first two hours!  The sale was a smashing success,we made close to $700.00!!  Which puts us about $128.00 dollars away from our 1,500 goal :)  Thank You to the community for such an Awesome turnout,You Rock Salida ;)

In sewing news...

Last week during the evenings, this is the project that I was working on.  It had to be put aside so that the baking could commence.  At this stage the front pocket (quilt block) was quilted and attached.

A peek inside, the contrasting fabric at the bottom makes up three smaller pockets.  In this shot you can just see that the quilt block is a pocket.

This evening there was time to finish up!  Not sure if I will put this one in my shop,or keep it :)
