Home Sweet Home

Vacation is a wonderful thing, that being said....
It is good to be home, and not driving!
(out of 11 days,5 were spent driving)

Gil enjoying his new quilt.
He is such a sweet guy,he gave Mr. P and I his quilt to use
while we visited :)  So he didn't actually get to sleep under
it until we left!

The folded up blanket in the above photo is what he used
while we were there.

Here it is on his bed in the Barracks.  As you can see he
is using the back side as the top.  He texted me this photo
last night with the caption"my quilt is Very Warm,I Love it"

My guess is that this (the label) is the reason he is using it
upside down,LOL!  He thought this was"So Cool Mom,How
did you do that")

We stayed at a buddy's apartment in the spare bedroom.  Gil
slept on their couch.  They borrowed a mattress and
boxspring from another buddy/neighbor for us to sleep on :)

So,I need to make a couple of baby quilts,to say thank you!
The friends we stayed with have 2 boys,a 14 month old and
a 2 1/2 month old.  The neighbor has a 5 month old little
girl.

Breathe

So all week I have been hibernating in my sewing room.
Sewing like a woman possessed, trying to get this finished.
Tuesday after work I had nothing but problems for three straight
hours!

(attaching the binding here)

This evening I was Finally able to finish!!!

So here it is.
I will post much better photos after I give it to Gil :)
Although that might not be until after we return from Cali.

I can finally breath a sigh of relief!  I made it in the nick
of time :)

Weekend Progress

Friday after work I had to take a little time out from Gil's
quilt and make my block Tutorial for Stash Bee.

April is my month to be Queen ;)

So here is my block

Gothic Windows!

Meanwhile back at the ranch ;)  er,I mean back to Gil's
quilt!

This is my quilt label.  I really wanted to make sure that
it was obvious who this quilt belonged to.  So this is what
I came up with.

All 35 blocks,sandwiched,and quilted.

WheW!!

The last six blocks.  They were supposed to be
made from some cammies  that Gil could
no longer wear, since they had holes in them.

Unfortunately,he didn't send them to me.  So
at the last minute I had to dig around in my
stash and find something that might go with
the other fabrics in the quilt.  (in other words)
I adapted and overcame ;)

quilt.
Six more to go,and then I can start quilting them up!
Time is running out!  As we are leaving next Thursday at
lunch time!

My squares of batting all cut and waiting to be made into
a quilt block sandwich.

All 30 backing squares!

My favorite bit of mail this week :)
56 polka Dot charms, from the swap I joined last month!

If I don't post for a couple days its because lil miss Janome
and I are quilting up a storm on Gil's quilt :)

Catching up & weekend sewing

Remember a while back (last month) when I messed up on
my bee blocks for Sew Bee Blissful ?

Well today when I checked the mail box the extra fabric that
Sarah  so kindly resent to me not once, but twice was there! (Since the
first time she sent more fabric it got lost in the mail)  :(

These will go out in the mail tomorrow!  So sorry they are
so late Sarah!

Next up a new bag/pouch for me :)

The dark fabric looks brown in this shot (at least on my
screen it does)  but it is actually black.

An inside shot.
I have been wanting to use this camo print in something
since purchasing it last fall for a possible fabric in the
table runner swap I was in.

Alas my partner did not like this print,oh darn ;)

The pattern I used is Lollipop by Alkinson
Designs.
This was my first attempt at making a fabric
rosette.  It turned out more like a broach
than a rosette,but I like it anyway.  I added a
silver button in the center.

I also made three more blocks for Gil's quilt, which brings
my total to twenty!

Hope you all had some time for sewing this weekend :)

More finished blocks & a Giveaway too!

This evening I managed to get this block sewed up.
The name of this one is Rocky Road to California,or
Cali as Gil calls it.
Thinking that I  will make 2 more of this particular block.

These are both star flower blocks, which I needed to practice
before attempting to make again for Sarah for this month in
The Sew Bee Blissful bee.
So I killed two birds with one stone,so to speak.  Although
my fabrics don't make it look much like a flower.  I now
know how to construct the block, and have two more blocks
for Gil's quilt!

Two more for Gil,which brings my total to 17 blocks!

Now for the giveaway part of the post!

I made up these three little Micro blocks last night.  I
included "The Grim Ripper" in the photo to give an idea
of the actual size of the blocks.

Gil's quilt blocks...

These six blocks are the latest ones for the quilt I am
working on for Gil.
I was able to get five of them done this weekend, the sixth one
was finished after dinner this evening.

Here are all ten that are done so far.  I need to sit down and
work out  the math for the total number of blocks needed.
I am thinking it will be around 26.

Block Party!

First up is one of the 2 blocks for this month in the Sew
Bee Blissful Bee.
It is a Garden fence block.  The border looks purple on my screen,
but is is actually grey!

Garden Fence block # 2.  This was a easy block and went
together very quickly.
I hope that Christine likes them :0)
You can check out her photos here on Flickr I would share her
blog, but sadly,I don't know if she has one or not!

Next up are my first 4 blocks for the,sew.happy.quilt QAL
hosted by Jenna over at SewHappyGeek  In reverse order.

The above block,QST Pinwheel,is block # 4
This is such a hard block for me to get sewn together correctly.
This is the block that Jenna also picked for her month in the
Sew Bee Blissful bee.

I quit counting after the 4th time of ripping things out!  Don't
get me wrong,I love how the finished block looks, just not the
total hair pulling out, tantrum throwing, cussing a blue streak,
part!

Block # 3 is called Friendship Star.
This block went together quite nicely, and fairly quickly too.
Out of the 4 blocks we have done so far this is my favorite, hands
down :)
Not only because it was easy, but also because I really love
the fabrics I chose to use for this one.

Block # 2
SnowBall

This block was easy peasy!
I am not sure however if I like the fabrics I picked for this one.
I am thinking that it is just Way Too Busy,so I might re-do it
with solids for the center and outside corners.
We shall see.

Lastly,or Firstly, however you want to look at it
The Woven block.
This was Super Easy, overall I am happy with it.
I am considering putting a solid color sashing around the
blocks.
What do you peep's think?  Yes/No and if so white,or another
solid like,a matching pink,teal/aqua,red.....

Not too long ago Gil asked me to make him a quilt.
Although I searched High and Low for the fabric he
requested,it was not to be found :(
So,I decided that while continuing the search in hopes of
eventually finding some,I would go ahead and start with some
Patriotic fabric in my stash.
(with Gil's approval,of course)

I put the MARPAT (Marine Patrol) fabric under  the
blocks, because the white blended in with my sewing
table.
These 2 blocks are wonky stars.  I am still considering
how many of each block to make.

While I was at Joann's on vacation Gil picked out the
Woodland print MARPAT fabric.  Even tho as he said,it isn't
the "Real/Official" stuff,it is close enough for a quilt.

He is going to send me a pair of his camos that he ripped and
doesn't wear anymore.
When he does I will incorporate the salvageable fabric into the
quilt.

The last block from my "block party"
weekend.
I had to tweak the two garden fence blocks
to get them the 12 1/2 inch size that I needed.

They don't look bad tho!
